Commentary on His Holiness the Dalai
Lama's "Union of the Old and New Schools"
Fort Bragg, California; August 11, 2007
How can we understand the compatibility
of the Nyingma teaching that the "ultimate reality"
is a positive phenomena with the sutra view of ultimate truth
as a nonaffirming negative? Ani Christine discusses His Holiness
the Dalai Lama's seminal paper on this issue: "Union of
the Old and New Schools" from Kindness,
Clarity, and Insight.
How Not To Practice Tibetan Buddhism:
Sidetracks on the Path to Enlightenment
Seattle, Washington; August 16-18, 2002
In his Concise Lam Rim, Tsong Khapa tells us "Practicing
correctly is your own responsibility." But what precisely
is correct practice, or to put it the other way around, what
is it to practice incorrectly? To answer these questions, we
need to understand the stages of practice as they progressively
lead us from an ordinary life to Buddhahood. There is a built-in
process of development that itself keeps a practitioner from
going astray if followed. This process will be discussed and
used as a guideline for applying Tsong Khapa`s advice to our
personal practice.
Commentary on "Meditation on Emptiness"
Dehra Dun, India; March 16-25, 2000
(13 hrs 12 min)
Commentary on Jeffrey Hopkins's books, Meditation
on Emptiness and Emptiness
Yoga.
Practicing Tibetan Buddhism with a Western
Mind
Seattle, Washington; July 16-18, 1999
As Buddhist practitioners, we are westerners--not Tibetans, nor
Indians. How do we practice in a genuine way, a way that makes
sense within a modern world? How do we adapt and integrate the
dharma into our own experience without losing touch with its
essence? Can we understand the Buddha's teachings on the basis
of our own cultural intellectual history? Are there philosophical
or scientific lines of thinking within the worldview of our own
culture that can lead us into the Buddhist understanding of the
nature of things? What problems do westerners in particular face
in approaching and practicing dharma? In this weekend workshop
Ani Christine addressed these and other practical dharma issues.
